Motor Vehicle Mechanics perform Organizational, Field and Limited Sustainment levelmaintenance/modifications and repairs on military equipment as prescribed in the equipment Technical Manuals (TM’s). Must become familiar with some but not limited to the following types of equipment, sub-systems, support equipment and related systems such as Trailers, Material Handling Equipment and a wide assortment of wheeled vehicles. Must be able to use appropriate Technical Manuals (TM’s) in Diagnosing systems malfunctions and in dismantle/reassemble of equipment. Work involves most of the following: Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required; replacing worn or broken parts such as suspension parts, bearings, exhaust systems, cooling systems, engine components, transmissions, geared hubs, fuel systems, lights and ignition systems. Cylinder heads, alternators, water pumps, radiators and other unserviceable parts. Have a working knowledge of how to operate lifting devices, hand and pneumatic tools. Repair, and replace components, engines, transmission, and sub–assemblies. Assist team members in solving maintenance problems by analysis and troubleshooting. Maintains appropriate government required paperwork and the files (Job Packets) necessary for the maintenance and repair of the equipment. Direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment. Excludes TIER inspections. Perform other duties as required to support the mission and contractual requirements.
Qualifications and Experience:
5 years of heavy equipment military maintenance experience is strongly preferred. 3 years of operating experience is strongly preferred. High school diploma is preferred. Ensure that all tasks are performed safely and meet Government/Army standards when applicable. Wearing safety items of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)e.g. gloves, safety shoes, protective eyewear, hearing protection, and other items such as aprons or outerwear as appropriate. Employee is required to maintain a valid state-issued Driver’s license and applicable Government/Army license.
